Classification of Carbon Steel Product

Low-CS is characterized by a low ratio of carbon to iron. By definition, low-carbon consists of less than 0.30% of carbon. Also known as mild steel,

Medium-CS are similar to low-CS except that they contain carbon from 0.30% to 0.60% and manganese from 0.60% to 1.65%. These are mainly used for making shafts, axles, gears, crankshafts, couplings, and forgings

High-carbon steel Approximately 0.8–2.0% carbon content. Very strong, used for springs, edged tools, and high-strength wires.

Ultra high-CS (UHCSs) are low-alloyed plain carbon steels containing 1–2.1% carbon.
